The overall purpose of PTA is to make every child’s potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children.
What is the PTA?
The Irvington Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is a partnership between parents/guardians and educators who care about supporting the learning of all students. We hold regular meetings to talk about what events are going on, how to spend funds raised to support students and teachers, and planning fun community events.
Why Does PTA Matter?
Gentrification has changed our once diverse neighborhood. What sets Irvington PTA apart is the willingness to keep racial equity, non-binary and neurodiverse perspectives at the forefront when making decisions, but we don’t always get that right. We remain curious about the needs of EVERY student, but without representation, we cannot be certain our intentions are truly equitable.
Post-Covid, we have many volunteer positions available for activities and community engagement events we put on yearly. Some of these events will not be possible this year; some will take on a different approach. Our biggest fundraiser is our Auction. Held in the spring, it is the main source of fundraising for our yearly budget. The auction pays for school supplies, reading supports, field trips, community engagement events, after school activity scholarships and has even allowed us to support staff positions. Last year, much of our budget supported the Westminster Learning Pod, in conjunction with the YMCA.
How can you get involved?
The fee for membership is $12.50 if you join online and membership is good for one school year. If this is in any way a hardship for your family, please let us know. No family will be prevented from joining because of funds.
PTA Meeting Schedule
PTA meetings will be held in person, at Irvington School. Food and childcare will be provided.
