January 2009Irvington PTA minutes January 8, 2008 6:30-8:00pm Irvington School Library 1. Introductions, opening comments- Irma 2. December PTA minutes approved. 3. Smart Program: Donna gave an update on the “Smart” program. She thanked the PTA for providing the financial support to continue the program. Donna reported that 108 students are being served and 95 volunteers are helping readers 2 times a week for 30 minutes. Each student is given two new books a month to keep and so far 495 books have been given out this year. 4. Site Council: Constance Plager gave an update on site council. The site council is currently trying to implement some of the recommendations that were outlined in the corrective action plan, such as; testing all 2nd grades for TAG. Site council is also looking at strategies to help maintain our 5th graders, working on High School transitions for middle schoolers. 5. Ed, gave and update on the Budget. No changes to report. 6. Auction update: Rachael reports that things are moving along. 90 items have been submitted to be auctions thus far. Online ticket sales will start on February 2nd. The office will also be excepting checks for tickets as well. Starting March 2nd the ticket will sold for $30.00. Childcare will be $5.00 this year. Auction committee is looking for someone to help with a middle school auction project. 7. PTA OFFICER NEEDED: if anyone is interested in filling 3 vacant positions for next year please let the PTA know. Three out of the four positions will be vacant next year. Please step up and join the team, to help with a smooth transition. 9. Clothing Closet: Marshall High School clothing closet is still looking for clothing donations. Feb 9th Irvington is scheduled to provide 3-5 volunteer to help out at the clothing closet. If you are interested pleas contact Maggie Price 503.928.9282 or maggieericprice@msn.com. 10.Irvington Facility Update: short term goal: upgrade heating system and installation of exterior door key card pad. Long term goal: Science lab, emergency management system upgrade, exterior signage. 11. President Day Rally with STAND: Feb 16th 12pm-1pm State Capital Steps in Salem. 12. Spring Break Drama Camp: Young Players is putting on a week long Drama Camp during spring break.
