November 6, 2008Irvington PTA minutes November 6, 2008 3:15-3:45 pm 1. October PTA approved by members. 2. Musical performance by Daniel Brixius 4th grader students. 3. Welcome and introductions by Irma M. 4. Budget updates: Ed S. -Gift Wrap fund raiser raised $3, 800.00 this year which was down several thousand from last year. Thanks for your support. -Auction sponsorships are coming in. So far we have $2,600.00 in sponsors. -Expenditure: $20,000.00 of the $25,000.00 raised from Special Appeal from 2006 Auction has been used. -Art and Music enrichment: this year the PTA is paying the school up front for the cost of these programs. This allows the school to manage the contracts not the PTA. -Scholarships: Budget has been set for scholarships this year, spending to date is below budget. -Members approved a 6-8th grade basketball team scheduled to start this month. -The “new fence” is being put on hold, due to funding and the state of the economy. This project will be re-visited in the future. -PTA is still planning to hire a Grant writer to help put together plans to help seek other means to fund programs here at Irvington. -In light of the current economy, the PTA continues to be prudent in their spending priorities. -Money allocated to teachers each year: PTA will discuss further how the money allocated to the teachers will be refreshed each year if total amount is not spent. 5. Technology Committee report: Doug C. -PPS is planning to update current computer lab. Computers have already been purchased we are now waiting for PPS to schedule installation. -PPS has also budgeted a 2nd mobile computer lab for our middle school. The date of installation is to be determined. - 4 additional media carts will be ordered. This will allow all 4-8th grade teachers a cart for their classroom. -next tech meeting is: Nov 11, 2008 at 8:45 am. Please attend if you can. 6. Grant Cluster update: Irma - In January the Grant Cluster Group is working to put together a meeting that would include multiple Cluster Groups. This meeting will focus on the inequities that are apparent in the different clusters. This Multi Cluster meeting will help identify the needs and resources of other Cluster Groups and promote communication between groups to help equalize the inequities. 7. Portland PTA Clothing Closet: -The clothing closet is in need of DONATIONS. New and gently used coats, shoes, pants and or adult clothing. Will take cash donations. If donating please make sure the clothing items are clean, the closet has no way of washing clothing that is donated. If donating sock and underwear please make sure it is NEW. Thanks for any and all donations. 8. Auction update: -Donation letters have been sent out and sponsors are coming in….So far, we have gotten back 12 sponsorship checks worth $2,600.00 YEAH!!! If you know anyone or a business who may be willing to be a sponsor, please pick up a letter on the Auction board at the main entry way. Next Auction Meeting: December 4, 2008 at 9:15am REMEMBER 90% OF THE PTA’s FUNDS COME FROM THE YEARLY AUCTION. 9. Garden Update: Cathy P & Judy C -The garden committee is looking for a volunteer to help organize small work groups to help in the garden, during the day with students and after school. If anyone is interested please contact Cathy Percich and or Judy Cappleman. Thanks to all of the volunteers who helped in the garden this year. The garden looks great and has produced a lot. The garden is currently sleeping for the season. LIZARD, GATE AND GARDEN GROUNDS CELEBRATION WILL BE HELD ON DECEMBER 2, 2008 DURING PTA MEETING 6:30 PM. PLEASE COME AND THANK THE VOLUNTEERS WHO’S MADE OUR GROUNDS A BETTER PLACE. 10. Library Update: Cynthia Chase -The purging of the library is complete…Thanks to all who helped to make this possible. The next project is to re-label all books so that we can move to a digital tracking system. The great thing about this next faze, you can stop in the library and type labels when ever it fits into your schedule. Any and all volunteers are needed, if you would like to help type labels please contact Cynthia Chase and get an assignment. Next week the library committee will be meeting to discuss the re- arranging of the library. Please come and bring your idea and helping hands. 11. Student Council - The student council has voted on School colors. The new School colors are: RED, BLACK and GOLD. The council is now working to vote on a School Mascot, stay tuned. 12. Eighth Grades: - The eighth graders are raising money to fund their trip to Washington D.C. Please be on the look out for future fundraisers to support the 8th graders. Let's help the 8th graders get to D.C. 13. The Children’s Store: -Please support this not-for-profit store. All the processed got to support the children in our community.
