We wanted the say A BIG thank you to all who came, supported, volunteered and donated to the 2008 Irvington School Auction. The numbers are still coming in, but we have raised over $105,000 in net profits!  It is not too late to see if your company has a corporate matching gift program. Just contact your HR Department and see if your company will match your Auction Donation!

Thank you again and we look forward to seeing you next year on March 13th at the Melody Ballroom for the 2009 Irvington School Auction!

Spaghetti Dinner

The annual Spaghetti Dinner is coming soon. Mark your calendars for Thursday, April 10, 2008.  Invite family and friends!  Volunteers Needed. Please contact Miles Woofter 503.249.1530 or miles@ygh.com if you are interested in helping prepare this annual event.

Working Together

How much money could four 1st and 2 nd grade classes raise for a good cause? Inspired by Martin Luther King Jr.s concern for a better world, students in Mary Jean, Kara, Beth and Gail, and Mrs. Hunts classes collected money from January 22 to Valentines Day to donate to Heifer International. Students donated allowances, did extra chores, collected bottles and cans, had an art sale, and encouraged their family members to be involved. The total raised for all the classes was an astounding $641.97. Heifer International is an organization that fights world hunger by giving animals to families around the world. Students donated a goat, a sheep, a pig, rabbits, honeybees and flocks of chicks to the organization. Thanks to everyone who supported their efforts and congratulations students.

And Speaking of Good Causes

One of our Seventh Grade School Based Service (SBS) groups conceived of, planned and conducted a "Candy-Gram" sale to raise money for the Humane Society. The card sale happened on Valentines Day. In a brief one hour-sale, they raised $62.25 for the Oregon Humane Society.

MLK Day of Service

On a cold day in January, the Irvington Community came together to honor Dr. Kings memory. The food drive collected over 700 pounds of food this year. Thank you, Irvington families, for helping to fight hunger in our city.

Yearbooks Still Available

Its not too late to get your 2007-2008 yearbook. They cost $12.00. Order forms are available from classroom teachers or in the office. Checks should be made out to The Irvington PTA (Year Book).

PTA corner

Thanks to all who contributed to the success of this years school auction your time, support, energy, and donations are greatly appreciated.

Join us for the next PTA meeting, Tuesday, April 1, 6:30 8:00 pm, in the library. Agenda topics for April include planning next years budget and volunteer activities. Please let us know if you have any thoughts/ideas about how youd like to see the PTA spend its time and money. The final budget will be presented in May for a vote in June. Cant make the PTA meeting but hungry for information? There are many ways for you to know whats going on:

  • Check the PTA bulletin board for up-to-date information
  • Check our schools web site: www.irvingtonschool.com. PTA posts all of our meeting minutes, upcoming events and contact information.
  • Watch Irvington PTA meetings on your computer! In March, PTA broadcasted our PTA meeting (live) over the Internet. You can now watch that meeting by going to our schools web site, PTA tab, video link. We will try to broadcast meetings live and then archive them on the web site. Thanks to Justin and Steve for making this happen.Interested in receiving both up-to-date PTA and school information? Join our newly created Irvington School listserve! Right now the listserve is
"post only" meaning that you will only receive information thats posted by the PTA. Whats a listserve? When e-mail is addressed to a listserve mailing list, it is automatically broadcast to everyone on the list. The result is similar to a newsgroup or forum, except that the messages are transmitted as e-mail and are therefore available to individuals on the list.
