Site Council Minutes February 19, 2008 meeting Attending: Cynthia Macleod, Dick Cherry, Jay Hoover, Michela MacMahon, Kris Anderson, Cherie Allbaugh, Deborah O’Kelly, Erica Rosser. Site Council Minutes Informational meeting to give update on FTE March 13, 2008 meeting Attending: Cynthia Macleod, Jay Hoover, Kris Anderson, Cherie Allbaugh, Dick Cherry --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I have combined the minutes for the meetings noted above because the main item on both agendas was the FTE for 2008/2009. The FTE figures available at the 2/19 meeting were very early in the process, having only been released by the district the day before. I’ve included only the updated FTE as presented by Cynthia at the 3/13/08 meeting. I will include general comments and questions from both meetings. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- At the 3/13 meeting Cynthia presented her most recent thinking on next year’s FTE allocations. It was clear that we don’t have enough FTE to do everything that we think should be done, and that there were hard decision that had to be made. Cynthia said the there were still situation that have yet to be resolved, so please not see this as the final staffing. At both meetings, Cynthia indicated that she decided that we had to build the 6-8 program first, then the balance of the whole school program. In the 2/19 meeting there were questions about School Based Service (SBS) program. Cynthia indicated that she was going to limit SBS for all 6-8 grade students to no more than one session a week. On 3/13 Cynthia presented the 6-8 staffing as follows: 1 Langauge Arts/Soc Studies teaching 2 6th grades and 1 7th grade 1 Langauge Arts/Soc Studies teaching 2 8th grades and 1 7th grade 1 science for 7th and 8th 1 math for 7th and 8th .5 math for 6th grade math and science--Margaret Greer would teach this .5 spanish 7th and 8th would have daily, 6th for 1 trimester 1 PE – 6th grade - PE/Health – All year twice a week 7th and 8th – 1 trimester of each of PE, Health, and a blend Other staffing: K-5 teacher positions would be similar to the current year Currently no Ed Assist in Kindergarten, but things aren’t finalize, and she’s hoping this can change. .5 music – primarily for the k-5 1 principal 1 assistant principal 1 counselor .5 math support/TAG .5 literacy coach She hopes to have a media person as a 0.5, again dependent on other events. Hopefully PTA can continue to fund drama, visual arts and maybe music to the upper grades next year. Algebra will be available to all 8th grade students. A math score of 231 automatically gets you in. Others can join if the student and parent want to after talking to the math teacher. There was discussion as to whether we could move toward having a couple blended classroom in the k-5 grades as a way to ease overcrowding problems and create flexibility for enrollment changes. Cynthia said that in the past the teachers had expressed reluctance to teach multiple years of blended classroom. Cynthia agreed to discuss this option with the staff. It is undecided as of now who would teach health. There have been some preliminary schedules created. The final schedule will be coming out well after the staffing is complete, but before the end of the school year. Again, it’s very important that everyone understand that the staffing is not finished. There are still several items that aren’t finalized. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- At the 2/23 meeting Michela talked about the sculpture near the garden. They have found some beautiful and colorful outdoor tiles that will cover the sculpture. They were also able to get them at a very good price. Everyone is excited about this and the tiling will begin soon. Last updated by jhoover on Mar 19, 2008 at 12:39 PM |
