Irvingtons

6th Annual School Auction

Sign-Up Update!

Thanks to all who are rallying to create a sign-up event for the auction. We have a wine tasting at Great Wine Buys, a knitting party, Kentucky Derby Party, Outdoor Cinema, and a tequila tasting. We still need kids' parties! These are very popular and can earn a lot of money for our school! Some ideas are holiday parties (Halloween, Easter, etc.,) movie night, craft night, or cooking or other classes. If you're interested, please contact me at 503-249-0621 or kate.quisling@gmail.com

Correction:

A Blazer suite was mistakenly stated as being in the auction. This has not been confirmed yet but keep your fingers crossed! Sorry for any confusion.

Donations:

Please visit your favorite stores and restaurants and ask them for a donation for the auction. The forms are located on the auction board in the front hallway. Donations are needed!

From the Library

We will be having a book give-away in March. If you have any unwanted readables for children pre-k to 7th grade, please drop them off at the library. Thanks, Morreen

Information Night

If you are the parent or guardian of a 5th grade student and wish to learn more about the 6th 8th grade program here at Irvington, please come to an Open House next Thursday, January 31. It will be held in the school library from 6:30-8:00. You will have a chance to see curriculum materials, talk to students and staff and get some of your questions answered. See you there.

PTA Corner

Was your New Year's resolution to join the PTA? To find out more information about our wonderful school? To meet other Irvington community members? To get a chance to talk with Principal MacLeod? Make that resolution happen! PTA meeting Tuesday, February 5th, 6:30pm, Library, childcare provided for kids 3 yrs old + up.

PTA is working hard to communicate its work with all the members of our Irvington school community. Check out our updated PTA bulletin board across from the school's office. You will find PTA meeting minutes, a monthly PTA (and PPS) calendar, membership information and PTA contact information. Our school's web site is also up and running again: www.irvingtonschool.com. The web site contains up to date PTA meeting notes, PTA/PPS calendar of events, scrip forms, In Touch, auction information, site council meeting minutes and more. We realize that some Irvington families may not have Internet access. If you would like to receive PTA information in your child's Friday folder, just let us know and we will provide you with that information. For those non-English speaking families or those that would rather get their PTA information in Spanish, we are looking into translation services as well.

PTA is also in need of some help. Would anyone be willing to coordinate our annual Art's night? As many of you know, Irvington Art's night is a fabulous community event. It provides our community with an opportunity to come together, create arts and crafts, and have fun. Interested in coordinating the event? Contact Irma @ 503.493.2219 or imurauskas@earthlink.net

Many parents have expressed concern about traffic safety and congestion during drop-off and pick-up times at the school. In response, the PTA helped organize a traffic study by the city of Portland Department of Transportation (PDOT). School safety specialists from the city conducted their review on January 9 during pick-up time. A report will be issued that could contain recommendations on additional signage, street markings or other measures to enhance safety. In the meantime, you can help! Please make sure to obey all traffic signs in and around the school, especially the "No Parking" signs near intersections and crosswalks. Parking in those areas blocks the view of other drivers when children are crossing the street. The PTA hopes to share the Portland Department of Transportation report with all parents once it is completed.
