Love to throw parties?  I am looking for people interested in hosting a
sign-up item for the auction.  What's a sign up?  A sign up is a party or
special activity hosted by an individual or group.  At the auction, people
sign up and are charged to attend the event.  It could be for adults only, kids only, or families.  One that we'll have at the auction again this year is an Outdoor Cinema.  I've helped host a Texas Barbeque in the past that was really fun.  Also popular was the Men's Poker Tournament.
I would really like to find someone to host a cocktail party, or kids' parties (a Halloween one was very popular one year.)  Any other activity would be great also (bridge tournament, bunco, etc.)  It's
a fun way to help raise money for your school.  If you're interested, please contact Kate Quisling (503) 249-0621 or
kate.quisling@gmail.com

SAVE THE DATE:  JAN 28
Grab your sombreros!  Chez Jose has generously offered to hold a fundraiser for Irvington School on Monday, January 28.  They will donate 10% of all proceeds from that evening to the PTA. Chez Jose is at 2200 NE Broadway and the phone # is 503-280-9888.  They will be open from 4pm to 10pm.   Please note, they ask that parties of seven or more make reservations as they plan on being very busy that night!  So, call your friends, neighbors, and relatives and plan on taking the night off from cooking!  Eat at Chez Jose and support Irvington!
Notes on Notes
Music Has Power…
That is the theme of this year’s Human Relations Assembly.  All students have been working very hard preparing to sing at the assembly on January 25, 2008.  It starts at 9:15 AM in the gym.  Each grade level will be singing together.  Please come and bring friends, neighbors, and relatives.

GYM NEWS
Hopefully you all had a relaxing break.  We have started our tumbling unit this week in P.E.  Please remind your child to wear a shirt that is long enough to be tucked in and pants that have a belt or a waistband that fits snugly enough to keep pants from falling down.  Also, shoes and socks (no tights) that can be easily removed are best to wear on gym days.  Many students have been leaving sweatshirts and coats in the gym and as a result the lost and found near the gym and the main entrance is overflowing.  Please come by to see if anything belongs to your child.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service
“Everybody can be great because everybody can serve.”

At Irvington we have taken those words to heart.  This year we will again be doing a food drive to honor the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr.  You can participate in two ways.  You can bring canned food items to school and drop them off in the donation barrels located in the front hallway, starting Monday, January 14. Or, you can collect canned food from the neighborhood and bring it to school on Monday, January 21st between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m.  Last year we gathered over 2000 pounds of food to help replenish the food bank shelves.  Contact Cherie Allbaugh if you’d like to help or if you have questions. Call 503-916-6189 or
e-mail callbaug@pps.k12.or.us.  Make it a day on, not a day off.
