Site Council Meeting Minutes -  12/17/07

Present:  Cherie Allbaugh, Kris Anderson, Dick Cherry, Jay Hoover, Cynthia MacLeod, Erica Rosser, Amy Spunaugle

1.  Review School Improvement Plan

Site council members began review of the S.I.P. in preparation for writing the 2008 document.   We reviewed the Vital Sign Targets and discussed progress/current status.  We focused on two columns: Evidence of Effectiveness and Milestones.  Site council members had questions about some of the items listed under Evidence of Effectiveness and wondered about intervention strategies, especially for 5th-7th grade students who aren’t meeting benchmark.  It was also noted that we aren’t yet including attendance information in the In Touch newsletter.

2.  Follow-up on planning January info. Meeting for 5-7th grade families

Cherie and Jay will speak to 6th & 7th grade students and ask what information they considered when they chose to come to Irvington.  Cherie will schedule these focus group talks when we return from vacation.  We will invite families to an open  house to discuss the 6-8 program.  The Open House is tentatively scheduled for January 31st.   The invitations/flyers will go out in the Friday Folders on the 25th.  Cherie will include a “save the date” note in an upcoming In Touch.  The In Touch item will also ask families to contact Cherie if they have special concerns/questions they would like to have addressed at the Open House.  Invitations to non-Irvington families will also go out.  Cynthia will draft a letter and will see about getting addresses from the district.  That letter will go out during the week of January 14.  Amy will draft the flyer for the Friday Folder.

3.  Follow-up on piloting Saturday Academy tag courses

One after school class will be offered this trimester.  Site council decided to look into scheduling more Sat. Academy classes during the spring trimester, with the possibility that they would take the place of the TAG classes that Margaret Greer currently offers.  Cynthia will tell Kris which time slots are available and will survey teachers as to which Sat. Academy Leap classes would be of interest.  There was a discussion of how the program will be funded.  PTA will provide some money.

4.  Parent Involvement Policy Review

Site council members suggested that we give examples of things we currently do at the school that involve parents or that show points of outreach.

5.  Title 1 Parent-School Compact Review

Site council recommended that the words “Title 1” be removed from the document’s title.
